Civil Society Project Coordinator – Kandahar

Background:

Civil Society Assistance is seeking an exceptional individual to fill the position of Civil Society Project Coordinator at its office based in Kandahar, with travels to selected districts of Kandahar.

Job Summary:

Civil Society Assistance- a collaborative endeavor of INGOs is planning to expand its outreach to South Afghanistan, through a specially designed programme; viz Kandahar development initiative. The Kandahar development initiatives main objective is to augment institutional capacities of development actors, including state and create an enabling environment for the State and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to collaborate and undertake holistic development in a sustainable manner, and to contribute to strengthening the regional development process.

To effectively roll out the Kandahar development initiatives, Civil Society Assistance, Kandahar, announces the position of Regional Civil Society Coordinator, Kandahar.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Senior National manager, HID, and direct supervision of the Regional Development Advisor, the CSO Coordinator is expected to undertake the below stated responsibilities.

· Coordinate the activities and be overall in charge of day to day operations of the office.

· Develop greater synergy between the main development actors and ensure greater coherence of their development approaches,

· Facilitate wide range of capacity building activities, especially training and exposure visits, for the partners and government departments,

· Promote and strengthen a common platform for facilitating interactive learning partners

· Facilitate regular and constructive dialogue between the main development actors in Kandahar, including the Governor, government departments, multilateral agencies, other civil society organizations, donors and the private sector.

· Provide needs-based support and inputs to the provincial development planning.

· Facilitate in harmonizing development efforts and jointly develop more effective approaches to the promotion of alternative livelihoods.

· Support the exchange of experience and create an environment of interactive learning that is accessible to all the main development actors.

· Strengthen the local development actors in the performance of their respective roles and responsibilities.

· Identify and build local NGOs with a wide range of capacity building inputs.

Document and disseminate best practices of Kandahar among the development

· actors, through various means, that includes, development newsletter/ magazine

Competencies:

· Managing for Results: Plans and prioritizes work activities to meet Organizational goals;

· Partnering & networking: builds and sustains relationships with key constituents (internal/external/bilateral/multilateral/public/private/civil society); Seeks and applies knowledge, information and best practices from within and outside of Kandahar Development Forum;

· Innovation and judgement: Strong strategic, analytical and research skills, including the ability to analyze audiences, media, communications products and messages and to translate them into an effective communications strategy; Conceptualizes and analyzes problems to identify key issues, underlying problems and how they relate;

· Generates creative, practical approaches to overcome challenging situations;

· Communication: Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills;

· Demonstrates excellent presentation skills;

Qualification

· A senior and very experienced Afghan National, preferably with strong civil society relevant network and familiarity of working in Kandahar,

· Relevant University degree

· Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, working with an INGO or Government

· Should posses a decent capacity building background.

· Demonstrated networking and alliance building skills in a participative way

· Excellent social reputation with different segments of the society

· Excellent communication and facilitation skills, distinct but moderate and enabling rather than imposing.

· Should posses experience of working with Government departments

· Familiarity with ongoing planning process like ANDS, Provincial development planning, NABDP, NSP

· Familiarity with the situation of Kandahar

· Initiative, adaptability and skill in adapting policies and techniques to local circumstances;

· Fluency (oral and written) in English and Pasto. Ability to speak Dari will be an advantage.

Excellent command in MS word, excel, PP, etc.
